The National Internship Accreditation Scheme (NIAS) is Australia's first independent internship accreditation program. Developed by Interns AUstralia in collaboration with employment specialists, employers, industry, government agencies, interns and students, the NIAS supports employers and interns to identify, commit to and create a culture of fair and high quality internships.
The aim of the NIAS
Launched in 2015, the NIAS aims to promote the value and importance of fair and quality internships through the accreditation of the country's best internships. It is done by:
- providing employers with guidelines on how to establish a best practice standards internship
- accrediting employers whose internships meet best practice standards
- providing prospective interns with confidence in the fairness and quality of an internship program through the seal of accreditation
Why become accredited under the NIAS - benefits for employers
Employers of all sizes support the next generation of Australian to build skills, gain exposure to professional life, explore a career path and build networks.
Under the NIAS, employers can
- protect the credibility and reputation of your organisation
- comply with best practice standards
- help ensure the legality of your internship program
- provide an independent tick of approval from Australia's intern support and advocacy body
- provide acknowledgement of the quality of your internship
The NIAS is currently open for consultation. Please contact [email protected] for more information.
